nihil... I'm looking at history and how the entrepreneurial side of Chinese culture has manifested itself when permitted. (Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan.. San Francisco... etc.)

Having 1 billion voices asserting their desire for economic improvement over open warfare can be a powerful force.

And one more point... with the last several decades of "one-child/one family" policies, there exists a large quantity of families who would be completely wiped from the gene pool if their only children were killed in a useless war.
