Now for Fiber.....

Telcos have been using fiber from the central office to the business premise for years. But this fiber is for transport only. They continue to convert the fiber at each end back to T-1 signalling. Based on PBX pricing models, direct fiber connectivity is very expensive. It has its niche, but I see it again as a cost per connection issue. More of a backbone application than anything else. I see in the future that business will be served with DSL signalling over the fiber transport just like today with T-1 signalling over fiber transport.

Certainly for home connectivity, DSL over copper transport will remain for some time. Hey, the telcos need to deliver fiber transport for business and it will be cost prohibitive to do this to the home.

There is a difference between fiber transport and fiber connectivity. It is a cost per connection issue.

I could provide examples of each if requested.

JMHO.
