100cfm: When to buy is more a matter of individual approaches to risk and comfort levels than market timing mechanics IMO.

That is why there have been so many attempts to pick the perfect "system" for buying which don't work very well in practice necessarily

All that is compounded by the interrelationship of an emotion driven overall market and what impact that has on the price of an individual stock. And the difficulty in predicting either accurately.

Since this is primarily a "sleep well at night" factor, there is little chance of a one size (in this case approach) fits all.

Both the market and individual stocks move in waves - up and down by definition. But to change metaphors, both follow a stairstep pattern in the long run.

It is much more important to choose the an individual stock on the up escalator than when to step onto it.

Although my experience has been that if you choose well based on your own DD and are satisfied that you wish to buy, sooner is usually better than later. But that makes the penalty for a mistake greater.

Finding the stock to buy is crucial. When is not.

Just weekend musing.

Best.
