These predictions are utterly ludicrous. If there are any companies that do not perform over time, they will be removed from the index. GE is the only original member of the Dow, which IMHO makes historical comparisons using the Dow virtually meaningless. If MSFT performs over the next decade like Bethlehem Steel did in the 90's(highly unlikely), it will be replaced. It is a managed index which makes its relevance very limited. No other index I know of has companies removed because of perfromance; a companies place in an index is usually based on mkt cap or revs.
