Cheryl:
Market capitalization. Sorry for being so casual.
Gonna close this thread soon, folks. This thread was founded to piggyback on the original T/FIF thread. The original was founded to defeat sector negativism and "biotechs go down in the summer" arrogance. When that objective was soundly in hand, we founded this thread as biotech was coming back to life. Mike and Dave volunteered to take the effort forward, and it is fitting to close the thread on the news from Mike and at a point where Dave has documented a "rally ride" like no other, to my knowledge, has been documented.
Like to take this op to point at three things........
1. The new thread ("T/FIF, a new plateau") will again focus on stock-picking. It's going to be tougher, but...... some of these capitalizations are now backed by lotsa cash. We've all known that biotech was being manipulated as a "pharm league". If this liquidity continues, there is going to be a very, very quick discombobulation. It's time to start a new thread. Stock picking for the new world of "big-science capitalization". We've talked about the day that it was coming in the BVF thread. It's here.
2. Nobody, period, had a better 1999 than Miljenko. The original T/FIF thread named V1/Silverman/Suzman as biotech's investors of 1998. We have to give 1999 to Miljenko, on the combined strength of analysis and performance. Unmatched. THANKS, MZ! Next breath..... Dave's "Blind Squirrel" should be turned into a screen play. Same rationale for Larry, Marc and others who had huge years...... unbelievable performance, but insufficient analysis to knock MZ out of sole possession of the honor. I encourage "new blood" to take the lead with the new thread, as Dave and Mike volunteered last time.
3. The contributors to this thread represent lots of what's good in this world. Let's help Mike's daughter take it forward in fine style.
I realize that some will object to the arrogance of my pronouncing who is biotech's investor of the year. Tough, live with it. For those who object to picking the year's best biotech investor from among the ranks at SI, "open your eyes".
Thanks all, getting ready to wind down this thread as we wound down T/FIF I......... with congratulations all around.
