They always say the last person to see the victim alive is likely the murderer. It seems probable that Stein could have returned the keys himself. Jovin has to have made her way two miles distant or been carried there, by vehicle. On foot that would take at least one half hour. By vehicle we can assume a mere five minutes or slightly longer. To return and commit a killing within ten minutes seems unlikely so it would rule out Stein doing that but only if the 9:20 figure of his is accurate.
