We have two dogs, Kate, a tall, lean mixed breed who we got from the Humane Society a week before they offed her as not adoptable, and Annie the beagle who was left when neighbors abandoned her.

4 cats that that were left by their mothers in a neighbor's barn. Like a zoo here.

Dogs/wolves. The idea I have read that wolves hung with early humans because they ate the scraps. Easy pickings. Now another thing to cogitate on is there are wild dogs in many areas. A distinct species. Not to mention coyotes, jackels and foxes. And breeding for instincts.

Whoo boy, the modern dog, pet. I don't believe it's just from wolves. Coyotes will breed with certain dogs. A grand DNA mix. When the Labrador Retriever got real popular there were many back yard breeders selling labs. Now 1/3 of the puppies won't retrieve. Retrievers who won't retrieve. When the cocker got real popular in the 60s, that sweet breed became the #1 breed in dog bites.
