The Exchangeable Shares will commence trading on a post-split basis on The Toronto Stock Exchange on February 29, 2000. The Common Stock will continue to trade on Nasdaq on a pre-split basis, under the symbol "JDSU," until March 11, 2000, when the Common Stock will commence trading on a post-split basis. Additionally, during the period beginning March 3, 2000, through March 10, 2000, the Common Stock will also trade on Nasdaq on a post-split basis, under the symbol "JDSUV."

I know there has to be a reason for choosing two different trading dates for the split, one for TSE and one for NASDAQ, but I'd like an explanation just the same. Anyone know?

TIA --

Pat
