Once again, in the conference call after earnings, the FIRST question from the analysts was about Compaq and how it would affect IM...The CEO was not afraid to answer..in fact he said they just got back from Houston and were discussing with Compaq how they were going to work together to "squeeze" more out of the "channel"...BTW, this has been going on for some time... The two companies are almost "partners" in a sense... They both need each other..

IMO, I think the Compaq thing is blown out of proportion... You're talking about two companies that are #1 in their respective industries... I don't think either party wants to "throw" away all the hard work that got them there...just because one of the parties wants to try something a little different...

And also, the total direct marketing thing (IE Gateway/Dell) is not Compaq's strategy... It's about getting MORE out of the "channel"...and that's IM strategy also...
