I think your absolutely correct that the DOW stocks don't attract the momentum "investors". But, I also don't understand how 30 stocks can accurately reflect the health of the entire economy. This is definitely a weekend discussion topic, because it can never be answered nor does it affect most of our day to day trading decisions. I found an interesting (albeit 2 year old) article addressing this, in the Motley Fool archives. fool.com
