Mongolians Await Livestock Aid
By FRANCOIS TURON Associated Press Writer

ULAN BATOR, Mongolia (AP) - Thousands of herdsmen on Mongolia's barren pastures are piling up dead sheep and cattle near their tents and waiting for international help.

At least four people have died from the unusually severe cold and snow that followed a summer of drought. Officials warn the disaster will worsen this spring.

More than 44,500 households have lost some 850,000 head of livestock, their main means of survival, according to figures today from the International Red Cross. The Red Cross has appealed for $510,000 for emergency food and clothing.

``I want to buy more animals but I have no money. I feel that I may not survive, either,' said Sharaa, 70, a herdsman who lost 80 percent of his cattle and his horse.
