thanks, mact, that is certainly a thorough answer. and very useful to me.

i am delighted and astounded to read that they have 25 US patents. I could not find any listed in the US patent database. could you give me the numbers of any 5? i do know that they share, as co-inventors, the patent for the PowerShaper with Fujitsu, so there must be a number for that one. if you do not have the numbers, perhaps you could tell me the source of your data, and i could seek it there. of course, if that is their S-1, then i am back to square one.

i can tell you that avnx has told me that they do not use
either grating techniques or dispersion compensation fiber, so i have a pretty good handle on what they do NOT do.
when i read tunable filter, i think of the huge coil of fiber that is nowadays attached in the loop to cancel noise
by overlapping amplitudes in the same frequency. one "tunes" by studying the pulse echo in this coil and tuning the loop length to get the best result. that, of course, involves nonlinear actions. to create solitons one also increases the light intensities. but all this is "state of the art". you and i could do it too, with a team of photonic engineers we could hire away from, say, jdsu or qtera, by promising them even better stock options and huge salaries and with some upfront money from say mayfield fund. but we would have no edge over jdsu, lu, nt because we'd have no patents. so i HOPE that is not avnx's technology.

good luck to both of us. it is good to get to know someone who has a strong basis for owning these stocks.
thanks again. sincerely, jack
