OT---Great school systems of the 50's if you were white and privileged. Are the states responsible enough for us to let the Federal government off of their watch? Are school administrators and students responsible enough so that we don't have to worry about people with minority religious beliefs being put under pressure and ostracized? I am sure that there have been excellent school systems and low crime in many oppressive socities. I am not at all opposed to spiritual values being taught in schools or local control of education, but I thank my Federal government for having the courage that they did to do what they did for the underprivileged and the people with minority religious beliefs even as I am disgusted by the failures in Public Education.
