I too am wondering if there is a short term trading opportunity in AMAT coming up, but every time I want to pull the trigger I cannot. The market was pummelled by fears of a second rate hike. I felt that the second rate increase of 25 basis points was unlikely in May, after the last one, though I still believe that we will see it sometime in the summer. After the first rate hike, the market automatically started discounting in a second 25 basis point in May. At that time, I noted that Wayne Angel, probably the best Fed Watcher that lives, stated that it was unlikely that we would see it in May... If, after the FOMC meets in May there is no change in rates, I think the markets will continue to rally.

Oopps... just saw the GDP numbers.. who knows now...

With respect to AMAT, I also think that there was some degree of good news that never got factored into AMAT's price while the market was in a tailspin. The NVLS lawsuit ruling which was positive for AMAT killed NVLS stock price, but didn't move us at all (at the time). Secondly, LAM, in their earnings release made specific mention that they were losing some market share to AMAT.

The days after the last two quarters that AMAT reported, it jumped substatially.. I think 6 and 7 dollars or something like that... can we expected the same this time? Or will AMAT run up into earnings, and the sell off after a good, but not blow out report? Any suggestions? Comments?
