gladman and thread,

I was gumming Krispy Kremes before I cut my first tooth and I hope to live long enough to gum them again someday<G>

My mom told me about the upcoming KK IPO a few minutes ago and imagine my joy (but not surprise) at finding a new thread dedicated to the company who has enriched the taste buds of countless millions. Anyone who has eaten one of those little bites of Heaven knows that KK is going to rock-n-roll - and I'm talking earnings here, folks! Good work, gladman. THE HOT SIGN IS ON!!!!!

And yes, that's right, I had Krispy Kremes for breakfast this morning! I had the original glazed. The missus had the chocolate-covered glazed with an original glazed chaser. They were fantastic!

Here's a little story about our local Krispy Kreme store that opened a few months back:
Until a few months ago there was not a Krispy Kreme in our area (the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex). Then our local KK opened in Arlington and, "Katy, bar the door!" Threadmates, I swear it was absolute madness. The parking lot was overflowing. The drive-through line was a half-mile long. The walk-in line was out the door and into the parking lot. The Arlington Police had to be called in to direct traffic and to control the crowd. The local television and print media reported on the Krispy Kreme madness spreading across the metroplex.
My first foray into that little shop, little shop of hors d'oeuvres was quite an eye opener. I figured that there wouldn't be much of a line at 7 AM on a Saturday about two weeks after the grand opening and I was right, relatively speaking. I took the walk-in line since it appeared to be moving more quickly than the drive-through and only had to wait 45 MINUTES. The best part was that they were GIVING AWAY A FREE DOUGHNUT to everyone in line. The folks in line were incredibly enthusiastic and excited about the prospect of getting their hands on one of those delectable delights. Even the guy in line ahead of me who had never had one before was giddy with anticipation because of what he had been told about those Krispy Kremey morsels. I wish you could have seen him take his first bite and watch that expression of epiphanic bliss spread across his face.

What could compel so many otherwise disinterested-in-doughnuts people to wait for so long for just a doughnut? Because it's not just a doughnut, my friends, it's a KRISPY KREME! And, except for the occasional Paul Berliner of post #4 (Ich bin NICHT ein Berliner!), the wait is never too long for a Krispy Kreme.

Epilogue:
Several months after the grand opening the lines are not nearly as long and one can actually find times when one has the drive-through all to oneself. But I drive by my KK almost daily and I've never seen the store totally void of customers. This morning I hit the drive-through at 7 AM and had five cars in line ahead of me. There were also several walk-in customers at the counter.

Peter Lynch sings the praises of otherwise unsung tenbagger Dunkin' Donuts in one of his books. And all they sell are donuts. Wait'll he gets a load of Krispy Kreme.

BTW Krispy Kremes heat-up wonderfully in the microwave. But just a few seconds does it! The "breads" setting on my nuke-box for about ten seconds per donut does the trick for me.

Regards,

CC
