I think the answer lies in the timeframe you are trading in. Most of my trading is off a 5 minute chart, therefore my exits are based on the 5 minute chart.

Position traders might have a time horizon of days, weeks or months. Buy and holders may have no time horizon to speak of.

So you are right, its a difficult question to answer for someone, but the question to ask first is - what time frame are you trading/investing in?
