Haim, the trade balance is ignored as long as demand for U.S. based investment vehicles (i.e. nowadays exemplified by the Nasdaq) stays strong.
i can't reveal the source...it's anyway just a rumor. note however that Soros made comments at Davos directed at the ECB...he proposed it should begin to sell some of it's dollar holdings to boost the Euro. that may have been his way of testing the markets resolve.
since everybody and his aunt is short the Euro, a bottom should not be too far off. however, the dollar index chart looks bullish...that would change if it fails right here after just having made a new high.
at some point the current account deficit WILL become a problem for the dollar.
