August,

You probably won't believe this, but I am very sorry that you don't like the new SI. And, I'll be very sorry to see you go, if that's what you ultimately choose to do. In fact, I think that you were the first person that I actually sent a message to on SI. And, if you weren't first, you were definitely in my top 5. Plus, as you know, you and I have exchanged a number of very pleasant PMs.

In any case, I certainly don't want to miss the "deadline" that you imposed on me, so let me take a shot at responding to your concerns.

I have explained before why we decided to turn off the old SI, so I won't bore you with another explanation now. If anyone is still interested, you can check out this message: Message 12486657

Now that we've shut down the old site, we can focus our energies on completing the message database upgrade. When the database upgrade is complete, we expect to see significant performance improvement throughout the site...and I do apologize again - to everyone - for the slow-downs we've had recently.

In terms of the SubjectMarks page, it does, in fact, work as you suggested, i.e. downloads Subjectmarks w/new messages first. I know that you have a boatload of SubjectMarks (500 or 600, I think, right?) I think that duncan moyer had a great suggestion:

We'll look into doing something like this.

You had a question about folders, and where your posts go. Here's the short version:

1. Public and Private messages sent to you show up in your InBox.
2. Once you read them (Public) or reply to/delete them (Private), they are moved to Trash Folder (i.e. like the old ToMe folder). We automatically keep up to 100 messages in Trash, and the new ones bump the oldest ones out.
3. If you file a message into a folder that you can create, it stays there until you delete it.
4. Public and Private messages that you create can be found in your OutBox.

We will be publishing some new features shortly that give you a couple of key additional features: A) Ability to file any public post (made to or from anyone); B) Give you an option when you reply to a PM, i.e. do you want to keep the PM in your Inbox, move it to Trash, or file it.

I am sure that I have not addressed all of your concerns, but I am equality confident that you will let me know what I have missed. <g>

Thanks,

Bryan
