rr- Here's my take. I know it's doesn't move as quickly as you read about but IMHO at least double every time estimate for any new technology rollout. Technology pundits rarely match economic realities.

Next 1-5 years(1-3mb/s):
HFC for 40% of households.
ADSL for another 40% of households
Narrowband wireless via CDMA, TDMA, GSM, etc.
Fixed Broadband wireless MMDS or LMDS to fill in leftover markets.

5-10 years (8-15mb/s):
FTTC HFC like T's Lightwire trials in Salt Lake City
FTTC VDSL like Bellsouth's experiments in new builds.
Broadband mobile wireless- God only knows which one?
Fixed Wireless?

10-15 years(?mb/s):
FTTH for everyone.
LEO Sats like Teledesic for mobile wireless.
Fixed Wireless ?
