Many of the applications and Internet-ready wireless systems are on display this week at Lucent's Booth 5515 at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association's Wireless 2000 show.
"Lucent makes the mobile Internet work for you," said Bill Wiberg, president of Lucent's cellular and personal communications services business. Like no one else, we have all the pieces in place to support the convergence of wireless mobility, Internet-based content and electronic commerce."
Lucent is building on its alliance with Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW), announcing collaborations with Yahoo! and Strategy.com to enable network operators to offer mobile Internet applications on virtually any wireless multimedia communications device, such as a personal digital assistant or cell phone, and protocol.
Broadening the scope of the mobile Internet, Lucent Technologies, Sun Microsystems, and iPlanet(TM) E-Commerce Solutions, A Sun-Netscape Alliance, today announced an end-to-end solution that will enable mobile workers to access secure corporate intranets and email systems in or out of the office -- from virtually any mobile or landline phone.
The Intuitive Applications Access (IAA) solution will provide wireless carriers with an immediate and cost-effective way to deliver Internet-based services over wireless networks and current customer equipment. The IAA solution is built upon Lucent's Internet Message Management (IMM) and Voice Browser Applications, which are helping mobile users manage communications while out of the office from telephones, mobile handsets and personal digital assistant devices.
The IMM and Voice Browser will be part of Lucent's CTIA exhibit of next-generation network solutions at its 14,000-square-foot main booth. This exhibit, and complementary displays at the Wireless Data Pavilion (Booth 2177), showcase the breadth of the company's offers designed to make the Internet as accessible on the road as it is from a desk top.
Other announcements Lucent is making during CTIA include: * Lucent is launching its new ORINOCO(TM) high-speed wireless Internet access and networking system, which will be demonstrated at the Wireless Data Pavilion. This complements Lucent's agreements with Samsung and Sony Corporation on next-generation wireless terminals.
To help network operators manage increased voice capacity and deliver the high-speed data transmissions specified for 3G systems, Lucent is showcasing:

Noting that Lucent holds the largest share of the U.S. wireless industry equipment market, Wiberg said Lucent has experience in helping wireless operators manage technological change. "We spearheaded the evolution to today's digital wireless technologies with our Autoplex platform that preserved all previous investments in analog equipment and features," he said.
