Terayon's HighLink Multimedia Routers Now Support Virtual Private Networks and Quality of Service
HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 28, 2000--Here at the CeBIT 2000 Exhibition, Terayon Communication Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:TERN) is announcing the new Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Quality of Service (QoS) features of the company's popular HighLink(TM) line of multimedia routers for SOHO (small office/home office) and SME (small/medium enterprise) applications.
"With their new VPN and QoS features, our HighLink routers greatly increase the ability of network managers and operators to control and personalize their networks to deliver new services and to deploy secure VPNs," said Adoram Gaash, general manager of Terayon's Integrated DSL Systems. "HighLink's advanced routing capabilities are also complemented by Terayon's proven broadband cable modem systems, which can provide a high-speed link for Internet access and data services."
HighLink's new QoS features enable network managers to more effectively ensure the reliability, security and performance of their networks by adding firewall protection, prioritization capabilities and bandwidth reservation features. The new QoS capabilities can also compensate for the loss in quality which occurs when too many hosts are connected to standard IP networks. It does this by preventing the high delay, jitter and packet loss which degrade the quality of real-time applications, such as voice-over-IP (VoIP) and multimedia - especially over wide area networks (WAN).
Complementing its new QoS capabilities, the HighLink routers can also support Virtual Private Networking, which is the use of a public network - such as the Internet - for private communication. The popularity of Internet-based VPNs is growing due to the high cost of leasing dedicated T1, E1 and other high-speed lines to connect satellite offices and telecommuting employees to a central office. To ensure optimum security for Internet-based VPNs, HighLink incorporates HighPsec(TM), which is based on IPSEC (IP SECurity) the most popular security standard for VPNs.
Terayon's HighLink routers are ideal for ISPs, SOHOs and SMEs in need of LAN-to-LAN or Internet connectivity over ISDN, Frame Relay, leased line and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Its dual LAN models can be connected to broadband modems and provide connectivity over cable TV, wireless LAN or xDSL. Easy to install and use, the HighLink line's powerful IP/IPX-based routing capabilities and remote auto configuration features make them ideal for networks with growing needs.
Terayon acquired Radwiz, the developer of the HighLink line of SOHO routers, in November 1999 to complement its proven broadband cable systems with HighLink and the company's advanced xDSL access systems.
