Goliath vs. Goliath

In recent developments, it looks like the judge in the Microsoft trial has likened the software giant
to Standard Oil in its early 20th century heyday. Like the oil giant, Microsoft controls more than 90
percent of its so-called market, and both companies were the target of federal antitrust
investigations. As a result of said action, Standard Oil was segmented into 30 competing
companies. I don't think we don't need the Carnage 8-ball to see what the judge is thinking as far
as a solution to the MSFT dilemma.

What would it mean for you and me if MSFT was detonated into lots of little baby-Bill companies?
Don't fret, my children. It hasn't happened yet. The appeals process is long, and Microsoft's
pockets are very, very deep. The shouting and kicking has hardly even begun, and I predict at least
a Long Time before any kind of solution is implemented. In the meantime, I intend to sit back and
watch the drama unfold. With Steve Ballmer fuming and whining, Bill Gates scheming to preserve
his money pile, and Janet Reno relentlessly hacking away like the piranha she is, I expect hours
and hours of entertainment, maybe even more than came out of the Monica Lewinsky Scandal. Tell
me this isn't better than daytime TV. It's like Jerry Springer without actors.
