HOUSTON, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp. CPQ.N on Monday named Eastman Kodak Co. EK.N financial executive Jesse Greene as chief financial officer, capping a year-long changing of the guard at the world's largest personal computer maker. Greene, a 29-year technology industry veteran, currently serves as Kodak's director of business strategy and information technology and had previously served as the photography giant's acting chief financial officer and treasurer. Greene will take his new position in early April, a Compaq spokesman said. Prior to joining Kodak six years ago, Grenne spent 23 years at rival International Business Machines Corp. IBM.N, where he served as assistant treasurer, and in various other finance-related roles within IBM's customer financing unit. Greene, who is well known on Wall Street, fills out the top management team under President and Chief Executive Michael Capellas, who joined Compaq in July after a management house-cleaning that came in response to a string of financial disappointments and a resulting stock price drop. "This is a tremendous opportunity and my experience and skills are well-matched to be Compaq's chief financial officer," Greene said in a statement announcing his appointment. "While we have hard work ahead of us, I am excited by the challenge to accelerate the growth and success of Compaq," he said. REUTERS Rtr 10:35 02-28-00
