Reaching such rates would seem to violate the theoretical limits of the now-usable optical spectrum. I didn't understand what theoretical limits you mean. So I would answer commensurately by saying that photons are almost infinitely compressible. A bad statement deserves a bad response. Guess it depends upon what one means by "bad".
