Jim, Peter, and David- Thanks for the wireless discussion. I'm attempting to get up-to-speed on this sector. It's incredibly complicated. Just to many technologies floating out there. - Not only is there Cable Wireless MMDS, LMDS. But flavors of it, OFMD and WOFMD, I think? -Mobile wireless GSM, PDC, CDMA, D-Analog, Analog, PHS, and TDMA. -Throw on top of it newly developing 3G which I'm not even sure where it plays? - And on top of all that add the new wireless LAN technology. Of which I believe good old CDPD is just one small part of many developing standards. -And to it Satellite wireless LEO, MEO, and GEO.
....and it's a mess. I know I got some stuff wrong above. To make matters worse, I bet I'm leaving out a dozen other, "standards."
I think the first step in discussing wireless access technologies, is to mention the major classification first. ie., Fixed(or cable wireless), Sat wireless, Mobile wireless, LAN wireless. It's not going to be fun when these blur.<g> -MikeM(From Florida) |
