I'm not convinced that the Diavik mine will be anymore damaging to the environment than the four wheelers, boats and skidoos motoring around up there. If I felt otherwise, I would not invest in this company.
If the mine was located on the river as opposed to the lake the effects of the current would be a factor worth considering, but it is negligible in my opinion. We are talking about a relatively small development in one corner of a very large lake (which, correct me if I am wrong is not the true source of the Coppermine River).
Comparing a diamond mine to a pulp and paper factory is a stretch, as well as the occasional references to gold mining disasters.
My point was that overfishing by overzealous "sports fishermen" puts it's own form of pressure on the environment that should not be discounted.
