Teen People and Nordstrom Join Forcesto Reach Teen Market Through Interactive Fashion/Entertainment CD-ROM February 28, 2000 01:15 PM NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 28, 2000--TEEN PEOPLE Magazine and Nordstrom Inc. announced today a marketing program designed to enhance and expand the teen shopping experience. At the center of the program is an interactive CD called BP.ROM named for Brass Plum (BP), the Seattle-based retailer's junior department. Developed by United Internet Technologies, the CD will feature spring's newest fashions, accessories and beauty products. It will also include TEEN PEOPLE-selected clips from music videos, WB TV shows and behind the scenes footage from the BP.ROM fashion shoot.
BP.ROM will be mailed to nearly 600,000 TEEN PEOPLE subscribers and Nordstrom BP customers beginning March 9. The CD will be mailed with a 12-page 'magalog' that serves as a table of contents, highlighting key features of the CD.
"We know that 89 percent of our subscribers use a computer at home. This partnership with Nordstrom enables us to reach teens in an interactive way, using technology they are comfortable with," said Anne Zehren, publisher of TEEN PEOPLE. "BP.ROM enhances the shopping experience by providing teens with fashion direction for spring, in a convenient and hip format."
"BP.ROM is a new way for us to present the season's newest junior looks in the entertaining, forward format the BP customer expects from us. TEEN PEOPLE's involvement increases the CD-ROM's appeal by lending the credibility and voice of one of today's most popular teen magazines," said Linda Finn, Nordstrom vice president and marketing director for full line stores.
In-store promotional support will include videos with fashion and entertainment clips from BP.ROM. Simultaneously, Nordstrom will host a casting call at 72 participating stores where customers, ages 13-25 will have the chance to showcase their personal style in a two-minute video - - singing, dancing, speaking, or modeling. One winner will be selected from each of the 72 stores. A national panel of judges will then select five grand prize winners. One lucky "Superstar" grand prize winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to TEEN PEOPLE's 'What's Next?' event in NY or LA. The BP.ROM also offers customers the opportunity to subscribe to TEEN PEOPLE and America Online.
"We want to offer our BP customers a fun, current and integrated promotional vehicle. BP.ROM is designed to bring the customer to our stores for the fashion it highlights, as well as to participate in our national casting call contest," says Finn. Finn added that BP.ROM's beauty section features tips from Bobbi Brown's new teen beauty book, and that Bobbi Brown national makeup artists will kick off a series of teen makeover events in Nordstrom cosmetic departments at about the same time that the CD-ROM reaches customers' homes.
