(DELL.O) said on Monday it has named former Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT.N) executive Randy Mott to be its chief information officer and senior vice president. Mott replaces Jim Schneider, Dell's senior vice president of finance, who had been serving as Dell's CIO on an interim basis since October. Mott will manage Dell's global information technology infrastructure, including the company's Internet activities. He will report on a daily basis to Vice Chairman Kevin Rollins and he will be an executive committee member reporting to the office of the chief executive officer. Mott was named senior vice president and chief information officer of Wal-Mart in 1994 and joined the company's executive committee in 1997. Mott was recognized by Information Week magazine as "CIO of the Year" in 1997, Dell said. REUTERS Rtr 17:03 02-28-00
