That is not true, though neither is Calandra's statement. This is like saying JMAR was not in the disk drive business in the past. True they were not making DDs, but they were supplying equipment necessary to make DDs and had DD manufacturing customers. If one has contracts to supply technology to biochip companies and one stands to earn money from biochip companies, I'd say one is in the biochip business. The Berkeley bionic mumbo-jumbo is out of left field and seems to be drawn from a spurious post on Yahoo pondering the connection, as far as I can tell. It is telling that Calandra echoes the mistakes commonly made on chat boards in his official take. But hell, why look a gift horse in the mouth?
