NetIDEAS, Inc. Partners with Parametric Technology Corporation as ASP Channel for Windchill

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 29, 2000--NetIDEAS, Inc., a pioneer application service provider (ASP), today announced a strategic partnership with PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC) to offer hosted collaborative product commerce (CPC) solutions in the governmental and small business markets. As part of this partnership PTC will make an equity investment in NetIDEAS.

NetIDEAS represents a new breed of ASP, offering out-of-the-box or customized CPC solutions based on PTC's Windchill(R) software. Under its ASP model NetIDEAS will provide its customers with Windchill Foundation capability in a fully hosted environment. Running on NetIDEAS hosted servers, its flagship offering, ICEPak(TM), will contain all the security, administration, maintenance, and customer service as a full service offering without having customers make an upfront capital and infrastructure investment.

"Our team has been delivering solutions like ICEPak to federal government and industrial customers for nearly three years. What we have developed is now immediately available to deliver real value to our customers. We see an explosive demand for enterprise solutions that feature rapid implementation and reduced total ownership cost," said Kevin Hamm, president and co-CEO of NetIDEAS, Inc.

Customers gain value over traditional delivery methods by focusing on their internal key processes and cultural changes instead of on creating an IT infrastructure. The NetIDEAS, Inc. founding team is among the most experienced in the world in delivering solutions that foster "integrated digital environments" or IDE. "We have created and managed nearly 60 separate implementations for more than 4,000 users around the world, and, by offering our experience and ICEPak, built on an outstanding solution like Windchill, we are ready to immediately meet the strong market demands for this type of out-of-the box enterprise solution," said Hamm.

ICEPak differs from traditional document management and workflow solutions because it is built around Windchill, which itself is built on common, yet powerful Web standards like HTML, Java, and XML. "ICEPak is all about managing information as business objects," said Thomas Rassmann, vice president of product development of NetIDEAS, Inc. "Business objects in ICEPak(TM) can be of any digital form. They can also be coupled to other objects in a relational manner and are managed in user-definable life cycle states. This flexibility allows for a more robust set of data relationships to foster more effective product collaboration."

"We have been working with the NetIDEAS management team in deploying Windchill solutions for the past two years. They are very familiar with Windchill and its extensive capabilities in helping enterprises more effectively collaborate via the Web," said Steven C. Walske, chairman and chief executive officer of PTC. "With its ASP solution, NetIDEAS will help us bring Windchill technology to certain government and small business customers that prefer a hosted solution and thus allow those customers to maximize the benefits of collaborating and doing business over the Web."
