Glenayre, Aether Systems and Inciscent Collaborate to Deliver End-to-End Wireless Solutions
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news), a leading provider of two-way messaging devices, advanced paging infrastructure, and a premier provider of messaging and services solutions, today announced that it is teaming with Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: AETH - news) and Inciscent to develop and distribute wireless enabling solutions utilizing Glenayre's @ctivelink(TM) module for the Handspring Visor(TM).
Glenayre's @ctivelink(TM), is an innovative two-way wireless messaging module that snaps seamlessly into the Springboard slot on the back of the Handspring Visor(TM), providing users with untethered access to Internet-based messaging and information applications.
Aether, a leader in wireless data services and systems, develops complete wireless data solutions for companies in a variety of industries, including financial services, transportation and field service automation. Inciscent, a new joint venture created by leading wireless messaging provider Metrocall, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCLL - news), Internet services provider PSINet, Inc. and Aether, plan to offer a suite of technology services to small office/home office (SOHO) and mid-size enterprise customers.
In this new relationship with Glenayre, Aether will employ its Aether Intelligent Messaging (AIM) platform to enable the @ctivelink module with the Handspring Visor device to access Internet and enterprise applications using Metrocall's ReFLEX25 networks. The AIM platform allows enterprise customers to create effective and reliable data communications to multiple wireless devices and networks.
Inciscent will provide an outlet to a large potential customer base for the wireless data services and solutions that this alliance will create. Inciscent's access to Metrocall's customer base opens the door to deliver these new services to the SOHO and mid-size business markets across a foundation of over six million existing wireless users.
``Aether Systems is the premier developer of corporate wireless data solutions extending valuable information to the mobile user, wherever they are. We are excited about Aether's ability to leverage their application experience with the Palm OS to develop real-time data solutions for the mobile and active worker. Teaming with Inciscent gives a broad distribution channel to market these applications across ReFLEX enabled networks to the enterprise market,' said Eric Doggett, Glenayre's president and chief operating officer.
David Oros, chairman and chief executive officer of Aether said, ``Teaming with Glenayre and Inciscent to deliver wireless data solutions via @ctiveLink to the Handspring Visor provides an important link between our wireless data technology, a new line of handheld devices and the ReFLEX25 network.'
``Inciscent will deliver a suite of services that will provide its customers with mobile access to critical information from both the Internet and their enterprise networks. This partnership creates a platform to deliver these vital data solutions by leveraging the engineering expertise of Aether, combined with the power that Glenayre's @ctivelink brings to the Visor,' said Tom Matthews, president of Inciscent.
