Katherine, Both indexes you mention have quantitative criteria which must be met to join the index. If this criteria is/are met, whether it is sales, profits, or market cap, they are retained in the index. The Dow does not operate as such. Instead, the laggards are simply taken out. Therefore, I don't think you caould call the former two Actively managed. BK
