Don't waste your time trying to convince me. Try to convince the British, French and Germans who have installed socialist governments in the past two years. The British have had a bellyful of Thatcherism and love Tonyism. A Christian Democrat couldn't get elected on a bet in Germany. Are there any conservatives left in Canada?
Why do you suppose that socialists are doing so well around the world, just a few years after the triumph of capitalism?
Socialists care about the poor: they try to help them, heal them, feed them, teach them. Capitalists don't give a damn for anything except profits. Socialists have shown that they can learn. They know and have admitted that government ownership is dumb. No danger of any return to that. They also know that handing over control of public utilities to monopolies (as MAggie did in England) is just as dumb. Socialists are aggressive trust busters fighting against monopoly. Socialists have learned to create more effective regulation to force firms to become more efficient, fairer, and more progressive. Conservatives hate government so much that they cannot run an honest, efficient government. They are so accustomed to buying elections that they cannot give up bribery. Workers cannot spare the cash to buy elections. They just get out and vote.
Until capitalism and conservatism can appeal to the masses of the people, socialism will continue to grow and take over more and more governments. While socialism can make the welfare of the people as a whole consistent with economic efficiency and growth, it will flourish.
