More on X3D and Shout. Blaxxun is the other major player with an X3D parser/renderer. Both Shout and Blaxxun include ref implementations of the X3D spec. I've used interest in Blaxxun as one of my own guages of X3D viability/interest. If you take a look at Blaxxun, you'll see their principal investor is none less than CMGI. Likewise, you'll see their prepping for an IPO. Anybody think their IPO and subsequent capitalization can be used as a gauge of X3D viability/worth?

As I said before, Shout appears to have the nod over Blaxxun in terms of X3D parser/renderer viability. Their's a concise review/comparison of both by a supposed expert over at web3d.about.com

One other note of interest, I believe I read somewhere where a Sun java3d team member stated something to the affect of "the key to X3D/VRML marketability is real-time interactivity." I'll look for a link and post it if/when found.
