RE: short interest report...

I found another site which gives short interest reports in the same format as the NASDAQ, but this one goes further and gives alerts about the short interest. Among the more useful are alerts about the stock hitting a 12-month high for short interest, and an alert showing 'days to cover' rated against the other NASDAQ listings. It also flags short interest >10% of float for 4 months or longer.

For this site:

viwes.com

Now for the important question:
Does anybody know why the short interest is so high on this stock? For the moment I am assuming it has something to do with the news that H-P was dropping some of its business with INPH. However, this looks to be insufficient to explain all of the shorting. The short interest had begun to climb well before that December news item. Of course, the biggest jump in short interest (from 444K shares to 1,465K shares) came in Dec 99. But the short interest had gone from 68K shares in Sept. to 237K shares in Oct to 444K shares in Nov.

Perhaps this is explained just by the fact that short interest rose along with trading volume for those months. The ratio of 'days-to-cover' the short interest remained relatively flat until December.

I am beginning to wonder what would happen to the share value of INPH if a short squeeze materialized. That could be fun for some of us long-term holders.

cheerio,
