You ask, "What is this company's future?" Hmm. Where to start. Maybe the best place is with some fundamentals. It currently has about 94.4 million shares outstanding for a market cap. about $7.9 Billion. Institutions own about 80% of it, and insiders own about 5%. I figure that leaves about 15% or roughly 14.16 million shares for the rest of us. If it trades 750,000 shares a day on average, that's a turnover every 18+ trading days (assuming, of course, there are no long-term holders). If long-termers are holding and if the law of supply-and-demand is valid, maybe the "thin" market (if that's what "thin" market means) has some influence on how much the price rises and falls for a given volume of trades. Some of us here, including me, have owned SBL (not counting a sale for a car purchase or a house purchase here and there) since the mid-1980s. Nevertheless, I have no special knowledge on where it's going to be in the future. I can tell you that it recently announced some Palm Pilot-type products and interfaces and has been a leader in hand-held products for many years. It's been quite awhile since I've seen a competitor's laser "wand" at a checkout counter (unless it was a licensee's). I understand it has some pretty good wireless products, too. But I don't know for sure where it will be in the future. Check out about the last 50 posts here (that's not too many, considering) and also the last few press releases under "News" below and then go to the company website for more background. You might also visit Zebra Technologies for recent information related to Symbol. Searching the SEC's Edgar database for mentions of Symbol will turn up some interesting references in filings by other companies. After you do some more "due diligence", take a look at those 100 shares you own and then ask yourself if anything you just learned meets or exceeds why you bought them in the first place.

Also, my numbers above are not necessarily from official sources; I'm not a broker/dealer or investment advisor; and my comments are personal opinions, not professional ones.

Good reading and
Regards,
Harry J.
