LONDON ? Qualcomm Inc. and Symbian Ltd. will work together to ensure that Qualcomm's CDMA chip sets interoperate with Symbian's wireless information software and platforms.
The company's partnership will focus on Qualcomm's iMSM chip set family and Symbian's system software and platform, which is comprised of an operating system, applications and connectivity software for wireless information devices. Symbian recently announced three platforms, code-named Pearl, Quartz and Crystal, that include operating system and basic applications for respective smartphone, pen-based communicator, and keyboard-operated wireless information devices.
Under their strategic alliance, Symbian and Qualcomm's CDMA Technologies division will work together with network operators, software developers and manufacturers of smartphones and communicators.
"This partnership extends Symbian's central role in bringing together key industry stakeholders to set standards in the global wireless market," said Colly Myers, chief executive officer of Symbian. "Qualcomm is playing a leading role in driving CDMA technology and shaping third-generation network standards, and Symbian provides the core operating system and applications for smartphones and communicators. Together we're ensuring the future of services and applications, across all networks, on wireless information devices."
"We are extremely pleased to ensure that Qualcomm's new iMSM family, enabling single-chip, cost effective smartphone products, operates flawlessly and efficiently with Symbian's technology," said Don Schrock, president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. "This alliance will help boost the development of new wireless services and features as well as enable our customers to design innovative phone and wireless computing devices faster." |
