This simple transfer of stocks within a fund family works if one (or more) fund manager no longer wants to hold a particular stock (e.g. JDSU). However I would doubt that too many managers would want to unload something that has seen such appreciation over the last couple of years and likely has lots more to go. It is more likely that the index funds and those restricted to S&P500 companies will simply have to purchase on the open market. Of course some current holders may trim positions as a result of the run up in price that will occur, such as with Yahoo. So I would still expect a respectable increase in response to an S&P500 inclusion.
