MP3.com Proves Powerful Resource for Artists; Face to Face Receives Soaring Results From Online Contest PR Newswire - February 29, 2000 08:18
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- MP3.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: MPPP), the premier online music service provider (MSP), today released current online voting results for MP3.com artist Face to Face. The band, based in Los Angeles and firmly planted in the alternative & punk rock genre on MP3.com's web site, has handed over typical A&R duties to MP3.com visitors and Face to Face fans, who can vote to select their favorite songs for the group's new album.
Launched on February 21, the online voting mechanism encourages music fans to vote for their favorite songs of the 15 made available by Face to Face to be showcased on their upcoming fifth album, "Reactionary." In just five days since the launch, Face to Face received almost 150,000 votes while constantly climbing MP3.com's alternative charts. The top 12 most popular songs, as determined by the number of votes, will be placed on the album.
"When we were looking for an Internet partner on this project, we chose MP3.com because the company's philosophy on music and the music business matches our own philosophy," said Trever Keith, lead singer/songwriter of Face to Face. "Lady Luck Records and Face to Face have been constantly trying to change the dynamics of the music industry and MP3.com was the perfect partner in this endeavor."
"Face to Face is a perfect example of the Internet's power in the promotion and distribution of music," said Joe Fleischer, vice president of MP3.com. "As the premier MSP, it is our goal to bring artists and fans closer together. Face to Face and MP3.com definitely accomplished this goal."
About the Fan Voting Mechanism
"We knew we had a strong Internet fan base and we were thrilled to learn about the mass number of fans voting for their favorite songs... our fans are pretty rabid and they certainly have strong opinions," said Keith. "We're really happy to have them involved this early in the record making process. Following the results and learning their opinions through live chats and message boards is the most exciting aspect of all this."
The voting process is simple. Music fans listen to MP3 streams of Face to Face's 15 available songs at www.mp3.com/stations/facetoface. Since message boards accompany each of the 15 songs, music fans can critique and give the band feedback on their new music. Face to Face frequently views the message boards and has planned a discussion with their fans through a live chat in early March.
Once the songs are reviewed, music fans can vote for their favorite 12 songs through the following link: alxpoll.com. After the voting process is complete, music fans can continuously check to see how their favorite songs are tallying up by clicking on Face to Face's Current Results button at alxpoll.com.
On March 18, Face to Face will tally the votes and the 12 most popular songs will be showcased on "Reactionary," due out on June 20, 2000 on Lady Luck/Beyond Music.
