Ian: "Outstanding" is the number of shares that have been issued
from the company's treasury. The "float" is the number of shares
owned by "the public," i.e. YOU & ME, but not Corporate Officers,
Directors or "insiders." You are correct, generally speaking the
fewer shares in the float, the quicker the price should rise with
additional purchases (assuming no insider selling). Hope this helps.
