You don't live on the West Coast, do you? In fact do you live anywhere in the US? This is not the war that will "improve our lives", which is total BS anyway since wars divert effort and money from other creative ventures. What makes you think that today's products wouldn't be even better if the US economy didn't have to effectively pay the tax burden of being in a war-like economy for all those decades since WW2? Creative, energetic people can do amazing things in the area of product development. The positive contributions of the war economy are greatly overstated. I know. I've been there - for many years in fact, but I am not in the defense business any more. I can see the differences first hand. What a contrast in terms of contributing useful products and ideas to the rest of society.
