My suspicions, based on most of the last 18 years living in the South, is that the good ol' boy network is alive and controlling. Moving to Federal court should bypass much of this network, and if authority claimed and taken is indeed more than justified by the situation, and/or the shadow figures orchestrating this anti-GIFS strategy are manipulating or coopting government officials, I expect some sensitive body parts will be in a wringer.
The racist side of this was in my thoughts, but I was less courageous in sharing those suspicions. These suspicions come from my experience as a white man living in the South for 16 years where small groups still remain who can't stand anyone not reflecting as much sunlight as them, or follow their political or religious beliefs. (I am NOT painting a broad picture of Southerns as racists. I know better. I lived there.) I grew up in and now again live in Missouri. It too have a few loud groups (of varying skin color and religions) who leave a lot to be desired when it comes to skin reflection, slant of eyes, religion, etc.
Bringin in some 'sunshine' via the press, if everything proves out, could make some politicians and power mongers who are screwing with our shareholder value choose other careers.
