If a trader pays $.50 cents for a $5 call and the price of the underlying stock goes to $10 the option can be sold (or exercised) for $10. The profit would be 1900% . The profit would be the same if he paid $.50 for a $10 call. An option *has* to be in the money for it to be exercised.
