AM Communications' products monitor communications networks for cable TV and broadband system operators. The company's OmniStat is a computer-controlled system that monitors the performance of entire networks. OmniStat runs on a PC, monitoring signal level and temperature and reporting problems. The system has three components -- a master control unit, software, and transponders. Windows 95 or NT-based OmniVU software monitors at both the equipment and systemwide levels. The OmniMCU master control unit controls more than 10,000 OmniProbe transponders (data collectors) at once and reports problems within three seconds, regardless of the system's size. Director Alvin Hoffman owns more than half of AM.
