Thrunet Cable Modem Order Expands Com21's Presence in Korea

Com21 and System Integrator NEO Telecom Deploy Over 18,000 DOXport 101 Cable Modems to Korea Thrunet

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 2000--Com21, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMTO - news) today announced it has received an initial order from Korean System Integrator NEO Telecom for over 18,000 DOCSIS-based DOXport(TM) 101 cable modems to be shipped to broadband Internet service provider Korea Thrunet Co., Ltd. (Nasdaq: KOREA - news).

As a leading global supplier of system solutions for the broadband access market, this initial order fuels Com21's market share momentum in the exploding Asia-Pacific region. NEO Telecom expects to deploy up to 500,000 cable modems throughout Korea by the end of the year.

The order from NEO Telecom for Korea Thrunet represents the first-phase replacement of proprietary cable modems with Com21's DOXport 101 cable modems. The installations also represent the first in a planned migration to the DOCSIS standard.

``The Korean broadband Internet market is so active that we expect Korea Thrunet to deploy up to half a million cable modems this year,' said Sang Mun Cho, president of NEO Telecom. `` The transition from proprietary to DOCSIS-compliant technology is important for us. We selected Com21's DOCSIS products based on performance, price and technical support during our extensive trial period.'
