I believe registration to the NY times is free and takes a minute or two. Try linking to nytimes.com directly and look for a registration button or link.

Going back to the HIV vaccine in chimps, I found another version of the story in which it is said that the company behind this work is Apollon of Malvern, PA. (Sorry, that also came from a copyrighted source, but other than the reference to Apollon, it does not seem to have much in addition to what you get in the Times story).

The technique for cut and paste is fairly straightforward:

just select the text you want to copy with the mouse,
go to the Edit menu and pick on Copy,
then select where you want to paste,
go to Edit menu and pick on Paste.

This is no different than doing it in a word processor or any other typical PC or Mac program.
