Manugistics and VEBA Electronics Expand Strategic Relationship; VEBA to Increase Deployment of Manugistics' Intelligent eBusiness Solutions
ROCKVILLE, Md., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Manugistics Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: MANU), the leading provider of eBusiness solutions that enable intelligent decisions across trading networks, and group management company VEBA Electronics LLC (VEBA), one of the world's largest and fastest-growing forces in the distribution of semiconductors and computer products, today announced an expansion of their strategic relationship.
To enhance its North American operations, VEBA plans to deploy Manugistics' intelligent eBusiness solutions to member company ATLAS Services, and to member company Memec through its specialist distributors Impact Technologies, Insight Electronics and Unique Technologies. VEBA member-company Wyle Electronics has used Manugistics' intelligent solutions for more than three years and will continue to deploy the Company's solutions.
This expanded relationship is expected to enable VEBA member companies to increase customer satisfaction, enhance communication among trading partners, drive forecast improvements and power growth while controlling costs.
Using Manugistics NetWORKS Demand(TM) and NetWORKS Fulfillment(TM) solutions, Wyle Electronics, a leading distributor of advanced semiconductor devices to customers in the computer, telecommunications and industrial markets of North America, significantly reduced inventories during a major growth period last year without hiring any additional asset managers or buyers.
Dennis Bourque, Memec's vice president of operations, expects improvements in the company's demand and distribution planning capabilities. He also anticipates that Manugistics' solutions will enhance collaboration with more than 40 suppliers of advanced semiconductors that look to Memec to ensure their products will be used in the next-generation of electronic equipment.
In addition, Atlas Services forecasts that Manugistics' eBusiness solutions will improve its semiconductor programming, consignment, auto replenishment, manufacturing management, prototype support and vendor-managed inventory services.
"We were looking for solutions to help realize the VEBA vision of our member companies as part of an agile, customer responsive trading network with efficient operations and common practices around the globe," said C. Christopher Fecher, VEBA senior vice president and chief information officer. "VEBA's strategic plans and marketplace realities required that we deploy state-of-the-art tools and processes across these companies uniformly."
Fecher continued, "The selection of Manugistics as a partner to power intelligence for our trading network is based on the success of their solutions at Wyle Electronics. This strong story coupled with Manugistics' advanced planning, optimization and collaboration capabilities closed the deal -- Manugistics was the right strategic partner for VEBA. Now, by deploying these capabilities across all our member companies, we can drive efficiencies through the entire extended VEBA trading network."
"The electronics and high-tech market is moving fast and companies need to move at eSpeed," said Terry Austin, Manugistics' executive vice president, electronics and high technology. "Either they must adopt innovative approaches like VEBA's, or see their competitors gain market traction."
The two companies have also begun preliminary discussions to deploy Manugistics' eBusiness solutions to VEBA member-company operations worldwide.
