Caught the tail part of last night's CBC news magazine, I guess its about Alberta's move into private health care. I hope I got the facts right, so here goes. GBV appeared to be targeted because of their private services. Dr Gimbel was responding to allegations of breach of Canada Health Act concerning a patient, a senior called Jim. Jim had cataracts and apparently decided to have Refractive Lensectomy and paid $4000. (vision correction which apparently eliminates the need for cataract surgery in the future. I guess that means the tissue that forms cataracts are removed during the procedure. Someone more knowledgeable can comment or correct.)

Critics jumped on this saying "queue jumping" is taking place. Their position was the patient was supposed to wait in line for cataract surgery. I guess it is unfair to some people Jim had paid for another procedure that also removed the cataracts.

The part I liked was when the patient was confronted whether he had any complaints about Gimble. He looked surprised and responded that he "received first class service throughout." Obviously very pleased with the outcome. Way to go, Gimbels.

Perhaps Gimbel should be prepared for more free publicity :o) This issue is not going away.

An aging population = opportunities for cataract services in the USA clinics. I wonder if GBV is pursing this?

PS Congratulations to Karen Gimbel.

I'm pleased about her comments in the last NR. "I'm excited about the future, and I'm looking forward to working with GVI's board as we implement strategies to create value for our shareholders. We're very much committed to corporate growth, and in view of the dynamics of the refractive marketplace, we will re-evaluate our strategic business plan to leverage our core competencies."

Can't wait to hear more definitive plans.
