>>Virtual COn?
Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram turned many heads when Japanese gaming bible Weekly Famitsu gave it 39/40. While this was for a game that had no release schedule outside of Japan, the high score made many re-think this strategy, not to mention making this a red hot title for importers.
The basic premise for those not familiar with VO:OT is that you take control of a gun-toting-robot and take on a similarly equipped friend in an arena. The original Virtual On is best known in the UK for the two-seater arcade machines and dual-joystick control method.
Japanese Dreamcast owners have the advantage of a high speed cable network that the Dreamcast can access, this same arrangement is currently being implemented in the US. This enables people to play VO:OT, (and indeed other multiplayer games) head to head over the net. Proving that in some countries, Sega's promise of online multiplayer games via console is reality, shame it's not here.
After much deliberation it looks like the US may actually see VO:OT, though much of it will have to be re-written because if the differences in network code for the two countries. Unfortunately the project will have to be passed on to third party developers, meaning that features such Dual-Stick control and the all important network play may be ditched.
US gamers may never be able to play VO:OT in it's full glory. As for the UK however, it's not a concern, as VO:OT is definitely not being released here at all in any way shape or form. Apparently due to the fact that the original Virtual On, which was released on the Saturn, did not perform well...<< totalgames.net
