You know me better than that, Kash. I don't care whose CPU is in there, whether it's AMD's or Intel's. I still don't think X-Box stands a chance against Sony Playstation 2. I can understand why Microsoft will want to try, and I do know that Microsoft has a lot of experience in PC games at least.

<Folks already develop games for PC's. Yes those CD's won't run directly. But thats only because MS will have added a security feature only to run X-box games. The game developer only develps ONCE for PC and the x-box.>

Will the X-Box have a hard drive? No game console has one, as far as I know. Unless X-Box has a hard drive, no existing game made for the PC will be able to run on it.

Also, developing for both the PC and the X-Box is much more difficult than you think. PC game developers are already going out of their minds trying to debug a game on many possible PC configurations out there. Trust me on this. The idea of X-Box is that developers will have an easier time because they'll target one config. To develop for both the X-Box and the PC in general takes away that advantage, and we're back to square one again.

<In addition it would seem to me that X-box would replace all the current webtv boxes. And as the X-box allegedly has a hard drive it may well feature a TIVO kind of digital VCR feature set as well.>

Now that you mention it, I guess this could be a real scenario where X-Box can succeed, as an "entertainment appliance" instead of a direct competitor to Playstation 2. If that's the case, well then I think X-Box will be a terrific idea, if Microsoft can focus its goals properly.
